This will be the third in our Edge of Equity series. The panels are designed to help increase political literacy about equity and all of the key factors that contribute to it. We wanted to include art in the panel because so many times, artists are thought of as first wave gentrifiers to neighborhoods and public and private support for artist and art organizations can sometimes change the dynamics of a neighborhood in ways that displace residents. At the same time, art, culture and creativity are necessary components of a healthy, vibrant and vital community. This panel will help explore questions like “Whose art is visible, celebrated and supported?” “Are for-profit corporations that deal in and/or produce art corporations or artists?” and ultimately, “How can we have Art Without Displacement?”
